Sustainable Agriculture base on family farming

Sustainable agriculture is a way of farming that comprehensively integrating the aspects of environment and socio-economic of farm community. A mechanism of farming that could continuously fulfill the criteria of (1) economy profitability; (2) social profitability for family agriculture and communities; and (3) environment conservation. In the implementation sustainable agriculture is identically with organic farming.

Sustainable agriculture is aiming to eliminate the dependency of farmers over external input and the oppression by the neoliberal-capitalists and market dominators that dominate agrarian resources. It is a crucial step to restructure agrarian structure and building farming economic system which synergic between the production and distribution system within the framework of agrarian reform.

The implementation of sustainable agriculture lies in the tradition of family farming which respect, protect and guarantee the nature sustainability to rebuild the culture of farming as the source of livelihood. Therefore SPI call it “Family Based Sustainable Agriculture” to distinct it from the agribusiness concept of organic farming. Sustainable agriculture is the backbone for the implementation of food sovereignty.
